THE LORD'S PRAYER
We often hear, I do not know how to prayer. In Matthew we are told by Jesus just how to pray, or I should say, to pray in this manner. There are certain "steps" to be take in our prayer life for an efficient prayer. Please do not get me wrong, There are times in all our lives of a single word prayer works just fine, such as HELP!!!!!!!!!!! And, He is right there. What I am speaking about is our Prayer Life.
On the other hand, there are the "prayers" that we linger in all day when our minds are stayed upon the Lord but you will notice that even these prayers contain all the "ingredients" we need for an efficient Prayer.
7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. 8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
So we learn as Jesus begins His teaching on how to pray that we are not to use repetitious prayers, as the heathen, (those that do not know God as their Father) do. Because our Father already knows what we what needs we have before we even ask.
9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
After this manner, or is this way. A word we use today when it comes to setting up a web site is "template". It is a pattern or one of many patterns you can choose from to set up your web site for maximum effect. The Lord's Prayer is such a pattern, if you will. Jesus is showing us exactly how to pray for the maximum results and to whom to pray to and to whom will get all the Glory, something many Christians miss the boat on.
I recall going back 25 years or so there being a Jesus only movement. I knew in my spirit this was wrong. Everything the Father has, He has given to His Son but He has never relinquished His position as Creator of Heaven and Earth and of all things and should be honored as so. Jesus still and always will, sit at the right hand of God.
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name this is Step 1. We acknowledge that our Father is above all else, (Heaven) and we Praise His Holy Name, (Hallowed be thy name). So our first step in prayer is to give Glory to God our Father who is above all else, a Mighty God indeed.
Step 2 10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
We know how this world is and we know who reigns and rules in it so we ask that His Kingdom come and we ask that His Will be done, (not ours, but His) on earth as it is in Heaven. In heaven there is no questioning God anymore. The last time there was, Lucifer and 1/3 of the angels were cast out. We at this time live in this world though we are not of it, in our prayer we are asking our Father that His Kingdom and Will come down to earth, which it will at the second coming of Jesus.
Step 3 11 Give us this day our daily bread.
Do not forget to ask for your nourishment. We need to be feed His Word daily.
Step 4 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
Now, this can be a tough one for many. I am not going to go into my Liberty bell teaching right now and how to find perfect Liberty but I will tell you that you can not achieve it without doing step 4. Sin of any kind separates us from the Love of God. That is why it is so important to give up anything you may harbor against anyone or thing. To ask for forgiveness for how you feel and also to ask to be forgiven. Notice it says, Forgive us, as we forgive them. Two way street there beloved.
Step 5 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
God will never lead us into temptation but we have our own free will and if we follow our own free will and do not keep our eye and mind stayed on Christ, the flesh will rule over us and we will fall into temptation. Temptation, will lead to a fall and that is when we need God to deliver us from evil. So what this part of the Lord's Prayer is, is asking for the Grace to overcome temptation.
Step 6 For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Ah yes, I love this part, just as we open up in Praise and Worship, we end our prayers in giving God, OUR Father, our ABBA Father all the Glory, Honor and Praise He is due.
14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. (See step 4)

Ephesians Chapter 1 1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus: Paul opens his letter to the Ephesians stating who he is, an apostle or an adherent of Jesus Christ by the will of God, not his own will but God's will. We all know about Paul's Damascus Road experience, Acts 22. We see that it wasn't Paul's will but God's will. Just as we see in John 6:65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father. Now he goes on to and calls the believers, saints which are at Ephesus. A saint in the New Testament is not a sinless person but a saved sinner. Say what Emil? Does that mean I am a saint? Yes, you are, it is through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ that a sinner becomes a saint. Romans 1:7 To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. Just as we are called to be saints. The word "saint" always refers ti a sanctified person, someone set aside for the purpose and service of God. So the people of Ephesus were a group of believers that as we go along we will see, needed much re-enforcement in who they were in Christ Jesus but, I don't want to get a head of myself here. 2 Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
Eph 1:1-2 (KJV)
Next Paul Bless the saints when he says, Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. OK, you can say, OK Emil, we got it, that is pretty simple. Is it really all that simple?
A little testimony. I can not give a good lesson with out being an eyewitness to the Word of God at work, other wise I am a false witness that only parrots what is written and have no understanding on how the Word of God works, the Living Word of God.
I once worked for this company and part of my job was dealing with other business in the same venue. There was one particular secretary that I would speak to and every time we hung up, I would say, God Bless you. I never gave it much thought, it was the Christian thing to do and it was automatic.
My wife and I ran into this women about ten years later, we had mutual friends but didn't know it until we all meet at my friend's house one night. Sandy introduced me to her husband Bill and said, he is born Again and so am I now! I said Praise the Lord, I am so happy for you.
Then she said, you don't understand, every time you called me and then hung up you always said, God Bless you. It would always hit me. If you never would have said that so often, I never would have listened to Bill and then accepted the Lord! BTW, they had also bought one of my old hot rods via another buyer. But, the point of these Blessing is what Paul was bring out. We are calling upon God to bring His grace, peace, love and whatever these people need in their lives.
Prov. 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
They may seem like simple words that Paul was saying or what I was saying but there was power of Blessings in those spoken words!
Lesson 2 Ephesians Chapter 1
In our last Lesson we spoke about Blessings being bestowed upon others and how at the end of our Lesson we spoke about having the power of life and death by the use of our tongue. We can bestow Blessings upon people or we can bestow cursing or we can say nothing at all. Which do you think our Father in heaven would have us do?
A simple God Bless you is not only a Blessing but a short, simple prayer to our Father in Heaven for the person or people we are speaking to. They are NOT mere words if they come from your heart.
We must remember the Word tells us: 2 Cor 3:3 Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.
These words have Life to them, so that means that we, BY the grace of God, are ministering Life to the hearer. This is how Paul opened up his letter to the Ephesians. Please note that this letter is more then to just the Ephesians but to both the Jew and Gentile and to the Greater Church, the Body of Christ. He greeted them with a Blessing. How do we greet one another? The same way I would hope. I know at times I fail to so Lessons like this one do me a wealth of good!
While we are on the subject of blessings and will be going on; Those who went ahead and those who followed him were shouting, "Hosanna! How blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Mark 11:9 ISV
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
First thing we notice in verse three is that Paul says, Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. I recall while being an Elder and teacher in the Church of God that there was a movement going on that was a "Jesus Only" movement. I have mentioned this in another Lesson but have since expanded sharing our Lessens in more web sites. It is good to give Glory to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, even though all power and authority has been given to Him, He still sits at the Right hand of the Throne of God. God see us through Jesus. Jesus tells us how we should pray in the Lord's Prayers. the first step is giving honor and praise to our Father who is in Heaven. Paul goes on to say that it is God the Father who has Blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ. Places means the sphere or realm of the Christian's spiritual experiences identifying with Jesus in ALL things. Remember, we are no longer of this world, just in it. The things this part of the verse speaks about are; life, relationships, service, suffering, inheritance and future glory in the Kingdom.
4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
Paul is teaching these believers that they have been chosen before the foundations of the world were set. Which is very easy to see and somewhat easy to understand. Unless you are one of very low self esteem and need to be built up as the Ephesians did. The verse goes on to tell the church that not only had God chosen them but that they should be holy and with out blame before him, in what? Love. Here is where we always seem to go back to;
Mark 12:30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
31 And the second is like, namely this, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
If you go on to read the next few verses, we are told if we keep these two commandments we will keep all the commandments and laws concerning God's will.
5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
Again, Paul is going on about Abba Father and His place and how He selected us to be in our place in His Son according to His, Father God's will. Not ours or anyone else. We can not save anyone, the most we can do is plant seed and point the way, of course prayer works wonders. Isn't it amazing, the God of the universe and beyond chose you, me before the foundations of this planet were formed and knew we would be adopted as children by Jesus unto God Himself! And, it was His God pleasure to do so! If we can not praise God for this, how can we call ourselves Christians? How immense is our God that He can decide to pick me out of billions and billions of people throughout the centuries. Of course, He has also chosen billions and billions of others so I am not going to get a fat head over it. Have to keep humble you know. Praise God.
6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
To Praise His Glory and Thank Him for His Grace that He has made us accepted IN the BELOVED. Jesus Christ, His Son, the sacrificial lamb that gave his life for me, who shed his blood for the remission of my sins and for redemption and eternal Life. What a loving God we have. He loves us so much that He will chasten us at times to keep us in line, a good time to give Him Glory.
7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
8 Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;
Eph 1:3-8 (KJV)
17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;
1 Tim 6:17 (KJV)
God Bless
