Gore: Cap-and-Trade Will Bring Global Government

Gore told a British conference on the environment that energy tax under the so-called cap-and-trade legislation in Congress would bring about global governance.

Gore said the US is responding to the threat of global warming with the cap-and-trade legislation.

“The House of Representatives passed the Waxman-Markey climate bill,” Gore told the conference. “This achieves real reductions below the 1990 base level by 2020, and that is the threshold that many have said will dramatically increase the prospects for success.”

Gore acknowledged that the bill includes a carbon tax that President Barack Obama supports and is helping to push through the Senate.

Gore, whose documentary, "An Inconvenient Truth," on the claims of global warming won him praise from environmentalists, told the forum that Obama had secured billions of dollars from Congress for renewable energy work.

But, “It is the awareness itself that will drive the change,” he said. “And one of the ways it will drive the change is through global governnance and global agreements.”

“The average age of scientists in the space center control room was 26, which means they were 18 when they heard President Kennedy say he wanted to put a man on the moon in 10 years. Neil Armstrong did it eight years and two months later.”

Gore urged political leaders and governments around the world to join the battle against climate change. He conceded, however, that the level of awareness and concern among populations has not crossed the threshold where political leaders feel that they must change.

“The only way politicians will act is if awareness rises to a level to make them feel that it’s a necessity,” he said. “We have everything we need except political will, but political will is a renewable resource.”

of Christian Educators Association International (CEAI)
in the Santa Rosa (Florida) County School District in

The ACLU intimidated school officials to "settle" a
lawsuit by accepting a Consent Order that forces
employees to give up their rights to free speech.

Consent Order is in effect even after work and off campus!

The Consent Order is so broad that if any
school employee joins an after school Bible club - or
bows to ask a blessing at lunch - they can be held in contempt!

This Consent Order even demands that school employees actively

Neither students nor teachers shed their constitutional

If the ACLU gets their way, Santa Rosa employees will have to
give up their faith to keep their jobs. In these

Congress works on Obama's expensive universal health care

WASHINGTON- House Democrats are pressing on with a partisan health care bill even as a key Senate Democrat looks to achieve an elusive bipartisan compromise on the president's top legislative priority.


The action on both sides of the Capitol comes ahead of the Congressional recess, during which most lawmakers will get plenty of questions about plans to "overhaul" the nation's costly health care system, which includes Obama's plan of government-funded universal health care.

The House version gets weighed in hearings beginning today, even though there are concerns about its cost and scope.

Meanwhile, in the Senate, delays continue. Big concerns there include the public plan competing with private insurance.

But, Senate Finance Chair Max Baucus says he's convinced there'll be a compromise in time to pass health care reform in October.



HEALTHCARE BILL/TAXES House eyes new taxes as senators pare health bill

WASHINGTON- House Dems propose higher taxes as they aim to expand health care coverage.
Under consideration are higher alcohol taxes, increases to the Medicare payroll tax and national sales tax, of up to 1.5 percent or more.
The House Ways and Means Committee, aims to raise some $600 billion over 10 years to partially pay for overhauling the nation's health care system.
The tax options include:
_ Increasing the price of soda and other sugary drinks by 10 cents a can.
_ 2 percent income tax increase to single taxpayers earning more than $200,000 a year and households earning more than $250,000.
_ A new employer payroll tax could target 3 percent of employers' health care expenditures.
_ Taxing employer-provided health insurance benefits.
House Democrats planned to unveil the health care bill Friday. It would require individuals to get health insurance and force employers to offer health care to their workers, with exemptions for small businesses. A new public health insurance plan, would compete with private companies within a purchasing "exchange" where Americans could shop for coverage. Government subsidies would help the poor buy care.
Two Senate committees considered their health care bills. The Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee worked on a bill reflecting Democratic priorities, while the Finance Committee labored on a bill to attract GOP.
Finance Committee senators considered leaving a new public insurance plan out of their bill, instead creating nonprofit co-ops to offer insurance in competition with private companies. The co-ops could accept federal loans for startup operations.
Finance Committee members were looking at making federal subsidies available to help families with incomes 300% of poverty purchase insurance.
Sen. Dodd, D-Conn is presiding over the Health Committee session.

SPIRITUAL BLINDNESS/PRAYER FOR WATCHFULNESS

Jesus said, "I came to this world to judge, so that the blind should see,

SAD NATIONAL EDUCATION PRIORITIES

Breathtakingly Sad Teacher Union Boss Priorities

Longtime president of the American Federation of Teachers union Al Shanker once said, “When schoolchildren start paying union dues, that’s when I’ll start representing the interests of schoolchildren.”

Freedom@Work, the blog of the National Right to Work Foundation, has recently highlighted two stories which show how Shanker’s mindset continues to dominate among the teacher union bosses.

A teacher union hierarchy in Massachusetts turned down an $856,000 five-year grant that would have funded more teacher training and more advanced placement courses for high-level students – all because the grant would have rewarded high-performing teachers.

Meanwhile, the Associated Press recently reported that New York City taxpayers are shelling out $65 million per year to pay teachers under investigation for sexual harassment (and other serious charges) to NOT teach. Instead they play board games and do yoga. While protecting the jobs of these few, union bosses insist that teachers who refuse to pay union dues to the union be terminated immediately.

The common thread to this madness? Government-granted union special privileges. Compulsory unionism enables teacher union bosses to dictate education policy and pursue their radical political agenda.

Students play second fiddle (or worse).

The National Right to Work Foundation provides free legal aid to employees so they can fight back against union coercion and abuse.

CHOICES/RESPONDING TO CHRIST

A farmer went out sowing.
Some of what he sowed landed on the footpath, where the birds came along and ate it.
Some of the seed landed on rocky ground, where it had little soil;
it sprouted immediately because the soil had no depth.
Then, when the sun rose and scorched it, it began to wither for lack of roots.
Again, some landed among thorns, which grew up and choked it off, and there was no yield of grain.
Some seed, finally, landed on good soil
and yielded grain that sprang up to produce at a rate of thirty and sixty and a hundred fold. (Mark 4:3-8)

There was a man who had two sons. He approached the elder and said,
"Son, go out and work in the vineyard today."
The son replied "I am on my way, sir.", but he never went.
Then the man came to his second son and said the same thing.
This son said in reply "No, I will not.", but afterward he regretted it and went.

As Jesus was entering a village, ten lepers met him.

Loving Father, I choose to forgive everyone in my life, including myself, because You have forgiven me. Thank you, Lord for this grace. I forgive myself for all my sins, faults, and failings, especially ?-?.
I forgive myself for not being perfect.

Heavenly Father, I now ask for the grace to forgive the ONE PERSON IN LIFE WHO HAS HURT ME THE MOST. The one who is the hardest to forgive, I now choose to forgive, though I may still feel angry and hurt. I also make peace with the one family member, the one friend and the one authority figure who has hurt me the most.

Lord, is there anyone else I need to forgive? Thank You, loving Father, for setting me free.

Who shall bring a charge against God's chosen ones? God who justifies? Who shall condemn them? Christ Jesus, who died or rather was raised up, who is at the right hand of God and who intercedes for us? Who will separate us from the love of Christ?

So let us confidently approach the throne of grace to receive mercy and favor and to find help in time of need (Hebrews 4:16)

CEDARVILLE, OH - A Baptist university in Ohio says an education group's criticism of the school reflects the group's anti-religious bias.

Cedarville University was censured by the American Association of University Professors for firing a tenured faculty member. The group says the employee, who's suing the university, wasn't given due process.

In an e-mailed statement, Cedarville spokesman John Davis responds that the association has historically demonstrated bias against religious schools and the censuring is consistent with that.

The association scoffs at the school's claim, noting that one of its investigators in the Cedarville case is a professor at Calvin College, a Christian school in Michigan.

Davis says Cedarville is guided by "biblical principles -- not an external body like the AAUP."

WASHINGTON - Sonia Sotomayor resigned from an elite women's club after GOP questioned her participation. Sotomayor said she resigned from the Belizean Grove to prevent the issue from becoming a distraction in her confirmation hearings.
In a letter to Sen. Patrick Leahy D-Vt and Sen. Jeff Sessions R-AL, the federal appeals court judge said she is convinced that the club does not practice "invidious discrimination" and that her membership in it did not violate judicial ethics.
But she said she didn't want questions about it to "distract anyone from my qualifications and record."
Federal judges are bound by a code that says they shouldn't join any organization that discriminates by race, sex, religion or nationality.
The Belizean Grove bills itself as women's answer to the 130-year-old all-male Bohemian Club in California. The club owns a camping area in California.
"Belizean Grove is a constellation of influential women who are decision makers in profit, non-profit and social sectors; who build long mutually beneficial relationships control their destinies and help others to do the same," the group says.
Sotomayor defended her participation in the group, telling senators it involves men in some events and that no man had tried to join.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg, belongs to the elite International Women's Forum. So did Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.
Sotomayor told senators records from her time as a director of a Puerto Rican advocacy group are complete.
GOP complained Sotomayor initially omitted records in a report she sent the Sen Judiciary Cmte of a request to LatinoJustice PRLDEF to oppose reinstitution of the death penalty in NY in the 80s.

A leading health economist says President Obama implied to the AMA yesterday that doctors are the main problem behind rising healthcare costs.
Barack Obama cited in his AMA speech what he argues are radical differences in the practice of medicine across the country -- some doctors are ordering unnecessary tests and prescribing "treatments that, in some cases, can actually do people harm by raising the risk of infection or medical error."
Dr. John Goodman, president of the National Center for Policy Analysis, believes President Obama wants the government to force doctors to change the way they practice medicine.
"They are talking about a system parallel to the employer-based health insurance system," he explains. "So if you don't get insurance from an employer, you go into this artificial market that would be controlled by the government.
"You would have choices in this market," he continues, "and the left-wing of the Democratic Party wants one of the choices to be a government-run health insurance plan -- Medicare for young people."
Goodman says Obama's plan would push doctor and hospital fees and premiums so low that Americans would drop their private health insurance plans for the government program.
As to the president's implication that physicians themselves are part of the problem, Goodman argues that both doctors and patients are victims.
"Doctors are not the problem," he states. "It's a lack of a competitive marketplace that's the problem. Doctors are just as much a victim as patients. We are all trapped in a dysfunctional healthcare system shaped by bad government policy."
Many in the AMA audience booed President Obama when he said is against limiting malpractice awards, which is the group's highest legislative priority.

MEDICARE, MEDICAID CUTS WASHINGTON Obama said Saturday he wants to help pay for health care by slowing Medicare and Medicaid spending, but hospitals, and others are resisting.
The president suggests trimming federal payments to hospitals, saying greater efficiencies and broader insurance coverage will justify the change.
Hospitals, especially those with many poor patients, say the proposed cuts are unfair and will harm the sick and elderly.
Obama said high health care costs hurt the entire economy and contribute to lack of coverage. His address focused on payments to Medicare and Medicaid, which cover millions of elderly and low-income people and involve thousands of doctors, hospitals, nursing homes and other institutions.
He proposed cutting $313 billion from the programs over 10 years, $635 billion more in tax increases and spending cuts in the health care system that he announced earlier.
The president wants to cut $106 billion over 10 years from payments that help hospitals treat uninsured people. Spending on Medicare prescription drugs would fall by $75 billion over a decade.
And slowing projected increases in Medicare payments to hospitals and other providers _ but not doctors _ would save, the president said.
"Payment cuts are not reform," Rich Umbdenstock, president of the American Hospital Association, said
The pharmaceutical industry is wary of Obama's plan to extract $75 billion over 10 years from Medicare prescription drug spending..
Even if Obama and Congress could hit the overall goal, it still might not be enough to cover all the nation's uninsured.
Obama says the plan must not add to the federal deficit.
His budget director, Peter Orszag, told reporters "some additional resources will be necessary." House Republican leader John Boehner of Ohio said Medicare and Medicaid need reform, "but a new government-run program that will raise taxes and make health care more expensive."

A call for Washington to thwart New York budget over ed dollars

On the eve of what looks like an imminent vote by legislators to approve a state budget, two education advocates are asking Secretary of Education Arne Duncan to consider halting the process immediately. Their concern: That the current budget does not give enough of the stimulus dollars to needy districts like New York City.

The budget erases two years of planned increases in funds to New York City and other needy school districts, postponing them to the future. In a letter sent to Duncan yesterday, the groups, the Campaign for Fiscal Equity and the Alliance for Quality Education, also criticize the way the budget spreads out the state’s pot of federal education stimulus dollars, a $2.5 billion total, between the state’s school districts.

The call for Duncan’s intervention hinges on language in the stimulus law passed by Congress, which urges states to prioritize “equity and adequacy adjustments” passed in state laws when doling out their stimulus dollars to schools. The groups argue that New York’s budget “appears to be in violation” of that language. (more…)

Chicago adopted a comprehensive sex education curricula called in 2006, under Arne Duncan's leadership, according to the Windy City Times, a pro-homosexual website.
"Comprehensive sex education" is education-speak for sex education curricula that, among other things, teach students subversive views of sexual conduct, abortion, and homosexuality. Here are some of the topics covered in typical comprehensive sex ed curricula:
Provides values-based education and offers students the opportunity to explore and define their individual values as well as the values of their families and communities
Includes a wide variety of sexuality related topics, such as human development, sexual expression, and sexual health Includes accurate, factual information on abortion, masturbation, and sexual orientation
Provides positive messages about sexuality and sexual expression, including the benefits of abstinence
Teaches that proper use of latex condoms, along with water-based lubricants, can greatly reduce, but not eliminate, the risk of unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) including HIV
Teaches that a woman faced with an unintended pregnancy has options: carrying the pregnancy to term and raising the baby, or carrying the pregnancy to term and placing the baby for adoption, or ending the pregnancy with an abortion

Congress advanced an alarming expansion of the Americorps national service plan, with the number of federally funded community-service jobs increasing at a cost of $5.7 billion. Lurking behind the feel-good rhetoric is a bill that reveals multiple provisions that together create a creepy authoritarianism.
The House passed the measure overwhelmingly. Every legislator who either voted for this bill or didn’t vote at all has some serious explaining to do.
Last summer Obama proposed “a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded” as the regular military. Provisions in the Serve America Act bill raise serious concerns.
To begin with, the legislation threatens the voluntary nature of Americorps by calling for “a workable, fair and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people.” It anticipates the possibility of requiring “all individuals in the United States” to perform such service, including elementary school students.
The bill also summons up unsettling memories of World War II-era paramilitary groups by saying the new program should “combine the best practices of civilian service with the best aspects of military service,” while establishing ““operational headquarters,” “superintendents” and “uniforms” . It involves Americans at all stages of life. And, it calls for the creation of a permanent “National Community Civilian Corps.”
The bill also calls for “youth engagement zones” in which “service learning” is “a mandatory part of the curriculum in all of the secondary schools served by the local educational agency.”
This updated form of voluntary community service is also to be “integrated into the science, technology, engineering and mathematics curricula” at all levels of schooling.

During his campaign, Barack Obama replied to a question about the treaty by saying he found it “embarrassing” that the US had not ratified the treaty — and promised to review it as president.
Before Obama's inauguration, Susan Rice said “The president-elect and Secretary Clinton share a commitment to the objectives of this treaty”
Rice said it was a “complicated treaty,” and that the State Department would look at how to “manage the domestic implementation.”
The treaty addresses the implications of international treaties for U.S. sovereignty, and the role of the UN in U.S. affairs.
In the mid-’90s, the idea that the government was infringing upon parents’ domain became a focus of the Christian Coalition
Rep Hoekstra’s (R-MI) congressional home page leads to parentsrights.us, a site that provides info his proposed amendment to ensure parental rights in our Constitution, and to oppose the treaty.
The treaty is supported by groups ranging from the Girl Scouts to the Christian Children’s Fund.
The treaty is complex, and, as with the law in general, the implications of a given provision can’t be fully understood until it is road tested in reality.
Hoekstra said, “If nothing highlights this [treaty], it’ll be slow progress thorough Congress.”
However, he noted, “If the Senate tries to bring up the U.N. Treaty of the Child,” he says, “it will bring this front and center.”

PP INT'L LOBBIES FOR SEXUAL RIGHTS FOR YOUTH IPPF’s UN Petition Drive Targets Youth, Demands Broad “Sexual Rights”

(NEW YORK – C-FAM) The International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) is pressuring governments to provide access to sexual and reproductive health services regardless of age.”
“Sexual rights” are not included in the ICPD program of action that the IPPF petition campaign is centered around. To date, the term “sexual rights” has never appeared in any binding, negotiated UN document.
IPPF also lists advocacy objectives that include pressuring governments “to recognize the right of all young people to make decisions about their own sexual and reproductive health” and to “build momentum for universal access to sexual and reproductive health services around the world.”
IPPF’s new campaign portrays “family planning” as a human right and emphasizes the need for governments and the international community to provide resources. The “15 and Counting” literature states that the campaign was launched to pressure governments to provide “access to affordable condoms to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections.”
The International Organizations Research Group has written about the attempts to link family planning, sexual and reproductive health and rights to HIV/AIDS in order to siphon off HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment funding to use for family planning and abortion.
The 2007 Women Deliver conference was supposed to focus on maternal mortality, yet UN officials like the UN Secretary General for HIV/AIDS, and director of the UN Population Fund (UNFPA), stated UNFPA wants money for fighting HIV/AIDS, malaria and TB by linking HIV/AIDS to reproductive health.
IPPF executive director has supported of this approach, lamenting the drop in foreign aid funding for family planning from 40% in 1996 to 5% in 2006 and stating “we must emphasize the importance of linking HIV/AIDS to sexual and reproductive rights.”

PROLIFE LAWS = TORTURE? UN Committee Says Nicaraguan Pro-Life Laws Violate Torture Convention

(NEW YORK – C-FAM) The (UN) has declared that Nicaragua’s full protection of fetal life violates the country's obligations under the Convention Against Torture.
The torture committee is the fourth UN committee to criticize Nicaragua, along with The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR) and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
No UN treaty mentions abortion, and it was not contemplated when such treaties were negotiated that countries would alter abortion laws.
The Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) has focused on actual instances of racial discrimination. Because of its abortion neutrality, CERD has been criticized by some in the human rights establishment.
Amnesty International, abandoned its neutrality on abortion in 2007. Amnesty asserted that Nicaragua's legislation banning all abortions was equivalent to government commissioned torture.
Amnesty claims that Nicaragua's law "causes women and girls to die," an assertion disputed by pro-life critics. The Population Research Institute’s Latin American Office contends that "the best evaluator of a country's OBGYN services are rates of maternal mortality." Nicaragua’s Ministry of Health shows maternal deaths have decreased since laws on abortion tightened.
The pro-abortion Center for Reproductive Rights (CRR) has avoids making such claims. In a recent submission to the ICESCR committee, CRR criticized Brazil for emphasizing lack of access to abortion as a cause of maternal mortality, blaming instead poor emergency obstetric care. CRR praised pro-life Sri Lanka for reducing maternal mortality.
The torture committee has pressured Chile and Peru, whose constitutions protect unborn life.
